Description:

Write an essay that responds to this prompt: What aspect of life do you think will be most changed, in the long term, by the COVID-19 pandemic? Why? Think about changes that will still be here in 10, 25, 50 years for example. You can mention many different types of changes (or things you think won’t change), but focus on one (or several related) changes that you think will (or could) result. Draw on our lectures about past pandemics and other disasters and the way they have changed politics, government, economics, culture, etc. Also draw on our assigned readings. In particular, the last set of readings has some broad thoughts on the implications of the pandemic. You can use these as a starting point to think about the focus of your essay. In addition to drawing on some of our assigned readings, find three other articles that can also inform your essay. These can be academic articles or in-depth journalism articles. They can be about past disasters and pandemics, or can be about the current pandemic. Finally, you can draw on your experience if it helps inform your analysis. This is not required, but if there are things you observe or things you hear from others that inform your analysis, you can include them. Essay requirement: At least 1,200 words in length (about 4 double spaced pages) – not including citations. Must draw on lectures, class readings, and at least three sources you find on your own. Must cite sources Citations: Use footnotes at the end of any sources, data, ideas you get from somewhere else. If citing published articles or films, use the Chicago Style: https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html If citing lectures, just put “Class Lecture”” in your footnote. If drawing on your personal experience
